Travel Hacking: A Mattress Run At The Super 8

Wyndham Rewards is the hotel loyalty program for Wyndham Hotels. The Wyndham Hotel Portfolio includes Grand Wyndham, Wyndham, Dolce Hotels, TRYP Hotels all the way down to Days Inn and Super 8. Wyndham Rewards has really upped their loyalty program the past few years. In fact in terms of redeeming points for hotels, Wyndham probably has one of the best loyalty programs. You can redeem just 15,000 Wyndham points for a stay at ANY of their properties. That means 15,000 points get you a free night at the Grand Wyndham Chicago or the Wyndham Midtown 45 in New York City. And with some travel hacking, it's easy to accumulate free nights fairly quickly with Wyndham Rewards.

Stay Twice, Earn 15,000 Bonus Points

Recently Wyndham Rewards announced a new promotion that if you stay two times at any of their hotels, you receive 15,000 bonus points, enough points for a stay at ANY of their properties. Just register for the promotion by June 30, 2018 and complete two qualifying stays by July 1, 2018. In order to qualify, you’re going to have to book directly with Wyndham through the hotel’s website.

So we booked two separate nights at a Super 8, with no intention of actually staying (a mattress run). Both nights had rates of right around $30. We checked in, paid, dropped the keys off the in the room and left. And nothing against a Days Inn or Super 8 as they serve their purpose, but it isn't typically somewhere we would stay.

Just like that, for about an all in cost of $60, we had 15,000 Wyndham Points. And we can use those points at the Grand Wyndham Chicago Riverfront or any other Wyndham property and save hundreds of dollars (a quick check shows rates at the Grand Wyndham Chicago Riverfront of over $400 in June). So with a little travel hacking, we turned $60 into $300 to $500.

Are we cheating the system? Not really. Because we met the terms of the promotion and paid for two separate stays. We just utilized their promotion and bonus points to our advantage for future travel!
