Delta Air Lines Changes Boarding Process
Delta Air Lines has announced that they are overhauling "and improving" their boarding process come 2019. These changes will be implemented on all Delta Air Lines operated flights as of January 23, 2019.
Delta Air Lines Introduces Branded Fares & Boarding
With this, Delta will introduce new color accents that distinguish Delta’s fare products (Basic Economy, Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+, Delta Premium Select/First Class and Delta One).
Each fare product will have a set color, inspired by Delta’s primary brand palette.
And you guessed it. With these changes, Delta will rename boarding groups to reflect the branded fare purchase. This means the number of boarding groups will increase. And Delta claims this will encourage fewer people to line up in the gate area at any one time.
Here’s a chart showing the new boarding groups and associated colors:
With this change, Delta is going from the current 6 boarding groups to 8. And as expected, if you are purchasing a Basic Economy Fare, you will board last. Sometimes less is more, but we will see if this change makes Delta's boarding process more efficient.
